* Match Previews for Sunday, August 15th
Cup Championship Begins Tonight
Sure, rankings from the regular season have created the following match ups. But, in effect, all points from the regular season are now out the window. It's cup hunting season tonight. And all teams are out for blood.
Chico's Bail Bonds vs. AC Kermans
League champions, Chico's Bail Bonds, look to get one step closer to securing their second double in as many seasons. ACK will be no walk over, however. They may have had a disappointing season on results. But if you had seen their games, you'd wonder how they possibly could have come up dry. No team has improved as much as this one. Absences, however, have prevented them from finding any consistent form. If ACK can bring a full roster to tonight's game and if players concentrate first and foremost on their defensive roles, it could be an upset in the making. Otherwise, we don't think they'll be able to keep up with CBB over a full 60-minutes.
Last meeting: 3-1 for CBB.
Berry Park vs. Hawks
Berry Park's run could be coming to an end tonight. Not only do they have the most depleted roster we've ever seen in WSP leagues (with 5 players injured and 2 out of country), the Hawks have seen new life in the past two games. It will still be an upset to knock off BP, whose core and consistently performing players (minus Captain Mike G. and burly back-liner, Alex K.) will be taking to the pitch. One of them is league-leading goal scorer, Nick A., who poses a big challenge to any back line. Look for Hawks' Andre A. and Tim S. to start playing off one another rather than playing solo hero.
Last meeting: 8-3 for Berry Park.
Scousers vs. Wild Turkeys
Wild Turkeys are coming off their best season of the year in the various NYC soccer leagues they've been involved with in 2010. They've tightened up their defense. And last season, WT's attacking game was largely limited to Drew D. and Seweryn O. Now these two players find themselves with more room, as other players have stepped up their offensive game. The team has no clear weaknesses and continues to improve from back to front.
Scousers can be the most dangerous team out there on a given night. But for some reason, they can struggle to earn the points you'd think they deserve by talent and determination. They'll be looking to right their last effort against The Wild Turkeys, when they managed just a 2-2 draw. Captain Niel C. is in the running to become the league's highest points earner by the end of the night. Paying too much attention to him, however, could leave other threatening players with enough daylight to carry the Scousers to a blinding victory.
Last meeting: 2-2.
Badgers vs. FC Headers
These two teams have been around since 2007 and have faced each other at least once in every season between then and now.
We're not sure if we have our history correct, but we think Badgers haven't managed a win yet against FCH. They've certainly drawn before, such as in this season's 1-1 result.
This could be the night's most evenly matched game. Both teams possess an offensive punch, which on any given night can leave opponent's dizzy and deflated. Each is defensively sound as well, though FCH is by far more consistent in that department.
Each team will also be looking to put the regular season well behind them, as both teams underperformed where results are concerned. It's a new, mini-season tonight. And each team will be out to prove themselves.
Last meeting: 1-1.
