* Spring 2010 MVP Winner is...
Spring 2010 MVP Goes to FC Headers' Fernando C.
We've sung Fernando's praises before, and here we go again. But there's more this time.
Fernando won the Spring Season MVP award for several reasons.
He did what was necessary to show up each Sunday night. And he brought his A-game every time.
In particular, we admire players who play in both directions. And we especially like those who don't go for goal every time there's a shooting channel, but who'll look up to see if someone has a better shot. That's Fernando. And he has the skill and the cool to make things happen for others, and for himself.
If you think we're being subjective in our assessment, here's one stat that says enough:
Fernando was in on 82% of his team's goals. Given that his team scored more than 30, the sample size is large enough for this percentage to mean something.
Now back to the subjective...
Fernando's a smashing bloke. He doesn't crab at refs. He doesn't get miffed at someone if they clip him by accident (and rarely if it's by design, which I've seen during his men's league play). He concentrates on playing the game. And he plays it smartly, considerately and extremely well. Moreover, he'd fit into any team in this league and improve it. That's the stuff of a WSP MVP.
He'll be hard to nudge out of this award next season. Game on.
Congratulations Fernando!
