The Cause
THE WORLD SOCCER PROJECT will use player-registration fees and other sources of revenue to fuel local education projects for marginalized children and youth in each city where we operate our leagues.
In NEW YORK CITY, your registration fees will support crucial middle-school programs in underfunded schools. For example, we're working with NYC's FUND FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS to create new sports facilities and to improve existing facilities in schools that need them most.
Our NYC league's staff is also organizing volunteers to create New York City's first soccer league for middle-school students. Please contact us if you'd like to participate. (Participation in this program will translate to reduced registration fees for you and perhaps also for your whole team.)
In each of our city-leagues, the charities we're partnerning with will provide educational opportunities for marginalized children and youth. The city-league that you play in will be benefit programs for children in that same city.
WSP looks first to local children and youth in need. But we also look abroad. We're establishing partnerships with major international charities, international organizations and NGOs for the purpose of expanding our charitable focus to Africa, Latin America and Asia.
WSP is providing its 'global' donations to the The Steve Nash Foundation - a private foundation dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health and education. Each WSP league - whether in NYC or Paris - will help to support the foundation's work outside North American (such as the GULU YOUTH CENTRE in Uganda and the SUPPORT HOPE initiatives in Paraguay.
WSP will do a lot more than allocate a portion of profits at the end of the year for tax purposes. Instead, we will be allocating a percentage of player registration fees (and other revenue) at the end of every soccer season to our partners. In NEW YORK CITY, that means donations will go the FUND FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS four times per year (at the end of the fall, spring, summer and winter seasons).
We're putting the work in to ensure that your fees go directly and immediately to good and effective causes. And we're also coordinating programs with organizations to add value to these donations - e.g., we will be working directly with schools in 2010 and beyond to help improve their sports programs through our volunteer work.
To do your part in helping to improve your local community, all you have to do is play the beautiful game with us! Not a bad deal.
